MISSION REDEFINITION

Believing that God is calling us to examine who we are as a church community and how we are to engage with the surrounding community, the Arlington congregation will be engaged in mission redefinition for 2012.  Much has been done already and much is coming.  This space will be a regular update on the how, what, who, and why of our journey.  The first two pieces give the recent history and some recent activity.  The third piece is the pastor's focus for the first quarter of 2012.  This was presented at our recent annual meeting.  If you have questions, insights, or thoughts, please share them with us.  We are excited about this journey with God and invite you to join us!

ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22

The season of Lent begins on Wednesday, February 22.  This year, we will have two Ash Wednesday services--one at 7:30 a.m. and one at 7:30 p.m.  Both will be times of prayer, meditation, and imposition of ashes.  The morning service will be about 30 - 45 minutes in length.  If you are interested in beginning Ash Wednesday with worship, please come join us.  The prelude to the evening service will be a soup dinner at 6:00 p.m. and then an introduction to the Lenten devotional we will be using during the season.  Worship will follow afterwards.  You are invited to mark the beginning of the Lenten season with ashes and prayers.  Questions?  please call 703-920-5660 or send us an e-mail.

READING FOR PRAYER AND REFLECTION

This year, the Arlington Congregation will be focusing on mission redefinition as though were were starting a new church.  During this year, we will spend time with scripture's account of new churches being started as we journey through the book of Acts.  Every week a scripture citation will be posted here along with a question for reflection.  Monthly, we will gather to share our thoughts and reflections.  Times and places to also be posted here.  May God bless your reading and your reflection

Read Acts 4

For reflection:  Are there people or situations that keep you from offering testimony?  When have you been bold to speak the truth about God?  How does what you believe about God impact the way you live, the things you have, the decisions you make?
