A
User-Friendly Church Library When
you sign out a book using the card in the back cover, keep in mind, we
really don't have a "due date" in mind.
We want you to keep the book as long as you're reading it.
We prefer that next to your name you put the date you signed it
out. Many
of the book cards now have the space marked as "date loaned"
instead of "date due" as most libraries use.
If
you have a title of a book or movie you think APC's library to have, let
us know and we'll buy it! The library
recently purchased books at the request of a ministry team that they
thought would be helpful to them and to APC. We'll
do the same for you—regardless of whether or not you're on a ministry
team! So,
if you've heard of something neat, helpful, or tantalizing that will
help you pray for, think about, envision, or do something, please, let
us know and we will move heaven and earth--oh, well, I guess, that's a
little too strong--well, we'll be more than happy to hunt it up and buy
it and make it available first to you, the requestor.
Then, when you're done with it, to the rest of the church.
Study Aids for Crossroads and Presbyterian Women
"The Present Word" In each issue of "The Presbyterian Outlook," a monthly newsletter from PC (USA), Crossroads students will find "Study Helps for the Present Word." Each issue runs study helps for the following month so you can read and prepare in advance. The one-page aid highlights the biblical text, summarizes the major points, and offers discussion topics. It provides a great aid for students and the class leader, and can help if you've missed a class or two.
Women's Horizon's Bible Study We have two copies of this year's Presbyterian Women's Horizons Bible Study--one for lending and another for reading in the library. You can find more information about this year's bible study at the "Horizons" website: http://www.pcusa.org/pcusa/horizons/. If you have any questions or can't find what you're looking for, just ask the librarian.
Library Resources: What Do We Have for You?
APC's Library has over 1,000 books with a section for toddlers and young readers, a section for adolescent readers and a reference section as well as a wide range of periodicals. We also have an audio-visual section with audio cassettes of the last year of services and events, a video section. Frequently described as the best non-seminary church library in Northern Virginia, we loan to all APC members and friends.
We also investing in an online database and look forward to the gift of a computer from a friend of the church so we can make the library's electronic card catalog available to anyone who visits our library. Our long-term plan is to enable APC members and friends to search for books they are interested in borrowing via this website. We're getting there--slowly but surely!
We encourage members, friends and guests to use library resources in several ways:
